The Time When A Human Turned Into a Phoenix

Hi! I hope you're  all as excited as I am about Halloween. 🌝

The day before yesterday, I wrote over 2K words. I'm very proud of myself. The day before that, I've written in total about 10K words (not all at once). This is making me very excited to reach the next milestone which is 20K. I'm working on the same number of words today.

I introduced a couple of new characters in the book. One of them was introduced earlier in the book and a newer one was introduced not too long ago. This character is called Ilda. She left her flat in Brighton to escape her abusive environment and home, to finally end up in London. On the train, she met Calvin, a young man who helps her find a home at his home. On her sixteenth birthday, she turns into a phoenix. He is completely flabbergasted. Here is an excerpt of what happened.

“Wow! That’s incredible!” Ilda stood up and stretched. A shooting pain ran through her and made her fall to her knees.

“Ilda! Are you ok?” He turned the main light on.  He fell to his knees and held her close. His hands felt the lump on her back. “What’s this? Take your hoodie off.”

She pulled her arms free and let the hoodie fall to the ground. A pair of large red, yellow and orange wings flared up around her. He gasped and fell to the ground, stunned. Slivers of black cloth fell off the wings. The back of her shirt was almost completely bare. Ilda starred at her wings in horror. It has happened. This is it.

“What time is it?” She swallowed down the bile that crept up her throat.

“What?” Colin couldn’t believe his eyes.

“What time is it?” She said louder.

   “Ugh, it’s midnight. I don’t understand what’s happening.”

   “I’m sixteen.” She stood up.

“Ok. I thought you were a little young. Is there someone I need to call? Do you need help?” He rubbed his eyes and rocked himself back and forth.

“No, it’s just me. It’s my birthday. And this has finally happened.” She flexed her wings wide open, knocking down a lamp. “Oops, sorry!” She smiled.

“You’re glowing. So you expected this to happen?” He couldn’t force himself to stand up.

“Yeah, I had recurring nightmares about it. I thought I was going to be a monster, or that I was going to die.” Walking around the house, she pulled open a window. “Is there access to the roof?”

I hope you enjoyed it. πŸ˜„
